So, I’m a surfer and this is what the first year of surfing looked like for me. I so desperately wanted to catch a wave, any wave…and yet…

 

no waves for me.

 

I am a solid swimmer.     I have great upper body strength.     I have exceptional balance.

 

I should blame my board – the waves – that other guy snaking in and stealing my ride.

 

Then one day after a particularly harrowing set, an old guy saddled up beside me and said…“Girlie! you won’t know…unless you go!”

 

And I whined back, like a pouty teenager, “I do want to go! I really, really wanted that wave!”

 

“Not what it looked like from here -I’ve been watching you for an hour…you could have had ALL of those waves but you pull back at the last second instead of digging deeper. You’re scared.”

 

WTF old guy! And don’t call me girlie! (I said to no one).

 

BUT OLD GUY WAS RIGHT. 

 

I was unconsciously afraid to catch the wave and was arching my back, slowing my board, missing the wave – Groundhog Day at Terramar (my local break).

 

I caught the next wave. It was big and powerful and it knocked me right off my board… almost before I could pop up…almost.

 

So what does this have to do with videos?

 

EVERYTHING.

 

I talk to folks every day who say they are ready to start making more or any videos. They need to get out there and start making more money, influencing more people, carving out the life they know they deserve.

 

But then they arch their back They get in their own way and they stay exactly where they are…insulated in their own creative process.
